AL CHILE — A Journey into Mexico's Spicy Soul 🌶️
How far would you go to understand why Mexicans put chili on almost everything, even when they know it’s going to hurt?
That question sparked Al Chile, a docuseries I created and directed exploring Mexico’s passionate, complicated, and deeply emotional relationship with chili peppers. Hosted by Adrián Uribe’s iconic character El Vítor, a loudmouth who always thinks he knows more than he does, the series travels across Mexico and India uncovering the stories, traditions, and obsessions surrounding one of the country’s defining ingredients.
Across four episodes, we journey from the habaneros of Yucatán to the wild chiltepines of Sonora, meeting chefs, farmers, historians, and everyday chili fanatics along the way. The series eventually travels to India, tracing how Mexican chiles crossed oceans, adapted to new cultures, and transformed global cuisines.
At its heart, Al Chile isn’t just about spice. It’s about identity, resilience, pleasure, pain, and the flavors that shape who we are.
Produced by El Estudio, Al Chile was nominated for a James Beard Media Award for Best Docuseries Visual Media, recognizing excellence in food storytelling.
The series is available on ViX in Mexico and the U.S., and on Amazon Prime worldwide. Al Chile is a love letter to the fruit that defines Mexico. Like any good chili, it leaves a lasting mark. 🔥🔥🔥
EPIC FOOD JOURNEYS WITH MARK WIENS — National Geographic
Food is never just food. It’s geography, memory, obsession, identity, and sometimes pure chaos.
As Director of Photography on Epic Food Journeys with Mark Wiens, I helped capture the energy, movement, and humanity behind National Geographic’s global food travel series hosted by one of the world’s most influential food creators. Across six episodes filmed around the world, the series follows Mark Wiens as he dives headfirst into legendary street food cultures, local traditions, and unforgettable meals through intense 24-hour culinary adventures.
Produced as a National Geographic YouTube Original, the show blends fast-moving documentary filmmaking with cinematic food storytelling, moving from crowded night markets and roadside grills to intimate kitchens and family tables. The goal was to make viewers feel the heat, smoke, speed, and emotion behind every bite.
The series earned a Webby Award in the Food & Drink Series & Channels category.
Working on the show allowed me to merge my commercial tabletop background with immersive documentary cinematography, capturing food not as static beauty shots, but as living culture in motion.
